At Winkoms Open Microscopy we would like to thank the organisers of SPAOM (Spanish & Portuguese Advanced Optical Microscopy Meeting), driven by REMOA and PPBI, for the opportunity to take part in the Open Science Fair during the 10th meeting, held in Vic.

We presented our real-time Paramecium tracking system, winner of Axelera AI’s Demo Jam #1: a closed loop running YOLOv8-seg on an Axelera Metis M.2 that drives a motorized XY stage to keep each microorganism centred in the field of view, unsupervised. The system is already used in behaviour studies with the group of Dr. Humbert Salvadó (Universitat de Barcelona), whom we thank for the scientific collaboration.

We also shared our open source motorized microscopy platforms.

It was a pleasure to do so at such a special 10th edition, with an open, participatory and hands-on format, and to talk face to face with the community that works every day in optical microscopy and image analysis.

Many thanks to the organisers and to everyone who stopped by to see us. Congratulations on the 10th anniversary! 🙌
